Discover the Most Common Causes of Homelessness

Although housing is considered a human right, many people lack access to safe and affordable housing. In the United States, an estimated 554,000 people experience homelessness on a given night. As a charity organization in Georgia, we will discuss the most common reasons why people experience homelessness:

  • Lack of affordable housing
High housing costs can make it more difficult for individuals who are struggling financially to find adequate housing. Without affordable housing, people find themselves with fewer housing options that are near a place of work or a safe neighborhood.
  • Unemployment or stagnant wages
Low wage is one of the biggest contributors to homelessness. Although the cost of living has increased, the minimum wage is unable to cover everyday living expenses. Without the ability to save money, an unexpected expense can lead to homelessness. Unemployment is also a significant factor especially since unhoused individuals without a permanent address face difficulties looking for work.
  • Lack of affordable healthcare
Healthcare can be very expensive for individuals who are uninsured. An injury or illness means spending a large amount of money on healthcare services while struggling to pay for utilities, rent, and other basic needs. This may also lead to neglecting medical appointments which can lead to higher medical costs down the road.

Fortunately, there are several humanitarian programs in the United States that aim to end homelessness. By supporting these programs and non-profit organizations, you lend a helping hand to those who need it the most.

As an international charity organization, we at Grace For All Nations, Inc. organize several programs to uplift communities across the globe. Reach out to us to learn more about our shelter for the homeless program and how you can contribute.
